Preventing Injuries

Marlene Kurban • Jul 06, 2021

While it’s nearly impossible to prevent normal childhood bumps, scrapes and bruises in the course of everyday life, these tips can help prevent more serious injuries:

  • Make sure your child wears a helmet when bicycling
  • Use playgrounds that are right for your child’s age, and make sure there are soft materials under them, such as sand, mulch, or wood chips
  • Prevent burns by restricting children’s access to outdoor fire pits, and supervising all cooking activities.
  • See the CDC’s recommendations on child safety and injury prevention here.
