Water Safety

Marlene Kurban • Jul 06, 2021

Drowning can happen in an instant. Other than birth defects, it’s the leading cause of death in young children ages one to four. Even a few inches of water in a bathtub, a pool, or any other body of water can be deadly for an unattended infant or toddler. Key prevention tips include the following:

  • Supervise children in or near water at all times.
  • Know life-saving techniques such as CPR.
  • Teach children to swim.
  • Have young children wear life jackets, whether in a pool, on a boat, or at the ocean or a lake.
