In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often take our children's vision for granted. That's why August is recognized as Children's Eye Health and Safety Month, a timely reminder for parents and caregivers to prioritize their young ones' visual well-being.
Children are highly vulnerable to eye-related issues and early detection is crucial. Many eye problems, such as refractive errors, amblyopia (lazy eye), and strabismus (crossed eyes), can be treated effectively if identified early on. Look for signs of eye problems in children, such as squinting, frequent headaches, rubbing eyes excessively, or holding objects too close.
Eye safety is equally vital during this month and beyond. Children are naturally curious and their explorations can sometimes lead to eye injuries. Create a safe environment by removing potential hazards such as sharp objects, harmful chemicals, and unsafe toys. When engaging in sports or outdoor activities, children should wear protective eyewear to prevent accidental eye injuries.
