Big Improvements Happening at InterCommunity!

InterCommunity is growing—and so are our efforts to make sure our buildings are safe, welcoming, and accessible to everyone. Whether you're visiting for a checkup, therapy session, or just helping someone get to their appointment, we want your experience to be as comfortable and easy as possible. That’s why we’ve started several important construction projects across our sites. These updates will help us better serve our community now and in the future.

  • New Sidewalk on Coventry Street
We are building a new sidewalk in front of our buildings at 56 Coventry Street. It will stretch from the campus entrance all the way past both buildings. The new walkway will include ADA-compliant ramps, which means people using wheelchairs or walkers will be able to move safely from the sidewalk to the parking lot. We’re also hoping to fix up the parking lot between the two buildings to make it even easier to access care. This project is funded by the Department of Public Health’s Health Disparities Prevention Grant and will be finished by the end of 2025.

  • New Garage for the Mobile Unit
Our Mobile Unit travels across Greater Hartford to bring care to people where they are. It offers things like vaccines, physical exams, and mental health checkups. To keep the Mobile Unit safe during cold weather, we’re building a special climate-controlled garage at Clayton House. This new garage will protect the vehicle and allow us to continue providing mobile care all year long. This project is funded by the State of Connecticut’s Nonprofit Grant Program and is expected to be complete by August 2025.

  • Better Heating and Cooling at 281 Main Street
At our 281 Main Street location, we’re replacing the old HVAC (heating and cooling) system on the first and second floors. This upgrade will improve the air quality, comfort, and ventilation for both staff and visitors. Thanks to the State of Connecticut’s Nonprofit Grant Program, this project will also be finished by August 2025.

These improvements are just one part of our commitment to putting people first. By updating our spaces, we’re making sure every person who walks through our doors feels safe, supported, and cared for. We’re excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to welcome you into these new and improved spaces!
