Promoting HIV Education/Prevention for African-American Populations

Marlene Kurban • January 20, 2021

Blacks/African Americans account for a higher proportion of new HIV diagnoses and people with HIV, compared to other race/ethnicities. In 2018, Blacks/African-Americans accounted for 13% of the US population but 42% of the 37,832 new HIV diagnoses in the United States (CDC HIV surveillance report, 2019).

InterCommunity is offering two groups:

1- SISTA group: The goal of this group is to reduce sexual risk behavior by heterosexually active African-American women at highest risk for HIV.

2- Nia group: The goal of this group is to reduce sexual risk behavior among African-American men who have sex with women.

These groups are designed for Black/African-American clients.
